過去數十年間，亞洲學生的出色表現，尤其是在數學方面，震驚了很多社會學家、教育學家和心理學家，形成了「華人學習者現象」的研究方向。許多論述將這些成功歸因於儒家思想本身，與此同時，亦有學者提出不要「過份儒家化」的驚號。有關這個課題的注意力漸漸轉到找尋中國傳統教學理念到對當代教學的啟示，希望由此汲收寶貴的教育文化遺產，從而優化今天的教學。而隨著香港與內地教育交流的日漸頻繁，兩地差異亦帶來進一步的反思，如何互相取長補短是值得探討的又一個課題。
In the past decades, the outstanding performance of Asian students, especially in the subject of mathematics, had raised the eyebrows of sociologists, educationalists and psychologists, which spawned the research direction of "Asian Learner's Phenomenon". Many of the studies attributed the success of Asian learners to the ideology of Confucianism itself. At the same time, cautions were made not to "over-Confucianize" in such explanations. The attention has also turned to the identification of the Chinese tradition of learning, aiming at shedding light to contemporary pedagogical practices. At the same time, with more frequent interflow among educators in Mainland China and Hong Kong, the cultural differences brings about further reflections. What lessons we can learn from such reflections could be another issue worth exploring.

香港自開埠以來，社會地方語言及中小學主流教學語言均採用廣州話。本文旨在分享一所學校自2000年開始，前後共用了五年時間，將小學一至六年級中文科教學語言由廣州話改用普通話教學。文章內容分享其轉變的原因、推行情況和成效的體驗，藉以推廣以普通話教中文的新文化。
The locally popular Cantonese dialect has always been the mainstream medium of instruction in the territories' primary and secondary schools. This article analyses a primary school's switch from Cantonese to Putonghua to teach Chinese language within five years starting from 2000, and by discussing the causes, implementing process, and results of the transition, attempts to promote adopting Putonghua as the medium of instruction of Chinese language in Hong Kong.

1988年民間教育團體提出之教育制度全面改革藍圖，主張大學全面四年制，一方面反對政府強行將中大四年制改為三年制的措施，另一方面提出解難建議的學制改革藍圖。當時政府拒納意見，部份民間團體提出改革藍圖好夢成空。本文擬就民間首次提出全面教育革的意圖作一歷史回顧，為當今教育改革注入源頭活水。
The Education and Manpower Bureau has published recently a report on the new academic structure for senior secondary, education and higher education. The proposed "3+3+4" reform will provide three years of junior secondary education, three years of senior secondary education and four years of university education. Many educators supported this proposal. However, it is important to note that the current proposed reform is actually similar to a blueprint of the academic structure reform put forth by 21 education concern groups in 1988. The blueprint was proposed as a response to the recommendations of the Education Commission Report Number Three published in 1988. And this blueprint was not accepted by the Hong Kong Government. This paper reports and comments on these proposals and blueprints with a view to generating constructive insights for building an ideal education system in Hong Kong.

高中課程改革是香港和內地教育改革面臨的一個共同焦點。基於高中課程改革的趨勢，本文介紹了內地高中新課程的改革方案，並且將其與香港高中課程改革做了簡要比較。然後，本文分析了內地高中課程改革的特徵及其面臨的挑戰，如實施策略、權力分配以及支持條件等。最後，本文從理論與實務兩個方面指出了內地高中課程改革需要注意的問題。
The curriculum reform of senior secondary school (SSS) is the common focus of education reforms in Hong Kong and Chinese mainland. Based on the developing trends of curriculum reform of SSS, the paper introduces the new curriculum project in mainland China and makes an initial attempt to compare it with Hong Kong's curriculum reform. Then, the paper analyzes the features of the reform of mainland China and challenges it poses, such as implementation strategies, allocation of power, and supporting factors. Finally, the paper points out some theoretical and practical issues that the reformers should deal with carefully.

Chairpersons of Physical Education (P.E.) Panels of Hong Kong primary schools, amid the climate of Education and Curriculum Reforms, still bear heavy workload derived from teaching and administration tasks. In this article, we would like to investigate the PE panel chairpersons' ranking of the importance of various leadership skills. A discussion of how P. E. Panel chairpersons of primary schools can mingle their received professional training and experiences with the theories of educational leadership skills, so as to transform into practical leadership skills and to accept "change" as a new school culture will also be conducted.

現代公民的發展，重視公民的積極民生參與，學校公民教育亦逐漸以主動公民取代被動公民的教育。香港回歸後的學校公民教育政策，開展公民積極參與的學習環境和機會，學校開始重視有選擇性參與的學生會活動。本文嘗試從探討學校學生會選舉，了解香港學校「參與性公民」教育的發展，並指出其中困難所在。

香港教育改革在「三三四」改制的建議下，首輪的課程改革將會同步實施，「新高中通識教育」將成為必修科目。隨著課程的轉型，教統局預測，「新高中通識教育」將來在全港推行後，任教該科目的教師將增至三千二百人。全港現時約有三百名教師任教高補程度通識教育。因此，很多現時任教「個人、社會、人文科」範疇內的教師及任教經濟科、經濟及公共事務科、歷史科（中國歷史及世界歷史）、地理科各學科的教師都或需要轉型任教「新高中通識教育」。這批教師需重新接受「新高中通識教育」的再培訓。在三三四制首輪諮詢期當中，教師及辦學團體紛紛提出不同意見，主要針對下列七方面：（1）新高中通識教育的課程內容；（2）任教新高中通教育的教師再培訓的要求；（3）新高中通識教育的教學法；（4）新高中通識教育的評估方法與分級；（5）學校行政與新高中通識教育科推行的配合；（6）新高中通識教育學生人數與教學效能的關係；（7）新高中通識教育的教學語言與學習成效。有見及此，本文將會從以上七方面進行初步探討。
In the recent round of education reform in Hong Kong, the 3+3+4 proposal was introduced. However, the introduction of Liberal Studies as a compulsory core subject has become quite a hot topic of debate. The Education and Manpower Bureau predicted that the change will affect more than 3,200 teachers who will be teaching the new subject. This paper aims to review the development of the subject over the past years and explore the possible challenges that teachers might face during the implementation process. These included (1) the content and structure of the curriculum; (2) the demand for re-training teachers; (3) the pedagogy of Liberal Studies;(4) the assessment and grading of project learning work of Liberal Studies; (5) corresponding changes in schools' administrative procedures to support the implementation of Liberal Studies; (6) the relationship of class size and teaching of Liberal Studies; (7) the relationship of medium of instruction and the teaching of Liberal Studies. Finally, recommendations are suggested.

Title: The implementation of voluntary teaching services at backward mountain regions in China by pre-service teacher education students of Hong Kong The education in the backward mountain regions of China is long lagging behind due to the lack of educational resources. Since the implementation of the "Xiwang Project" (Hope Project), large amount of mainland and foreign donations have poured into schools located at the mountain areas, tremendously improving the facilities of these schools. Chinese university graduates have also played a very important role in the "Xiwang Project". In recent years the Chinese government encourages the graduates to go to these schools and aid teaching there, with the objective of easing the problem of teacher shortage.
This essay focuses on the background and experiences of Hong Kong and mainland China student's teaching programme in the schools of backward mountain regions. Besides, it will also place emphasis on the arrangement, curriculum-design and teaching reflections of the voluntary teaching services in these schools organized by Hong Kong university students with education majors.

在新高中學制改革中，最引起公眾討論的是新設立的通識教育科。它成為了四個必修科之一。從表面來看，這個學科的目標是與整個教育改革的理念很配合，但是如果我們仔細地分辨，不難看到設立這個必修學科的理據，以及內容選取上，都有不足的地方。而更令人關注的是不少中學在政府的宣傳攻勢下，紛紛地在初中階段，設立通識教育科。這種一窩蜂的舉措如果是未經深思熟慮的話，可能會帶來很多負面的影響。
Liberal Studies has been designed as one of the four compulsory subjects of the new senior secondary curriculum. The aims and objectives of this "new" senior secondary school subject are, on paper, in line with the essence of the current educational reform in Hong Kong. However, a close review of its development and proposed contents reveals that the rationale for establishing this integrated subject and the content coverage are far from convincing. What makes the situation even more worrying is that the promotional strategy of the Government for establishing this subject has been so powerful and successful at some schools are creating a "liberal studies" subject in their junior secondary curriculum without careful consideration of the potential adverse effect of such a move.

世紀之初，港滬分別推出中國語文課程指引和課程標準。本研究是比較兩地的初中中國語文科課程。目的是：1. 比較兩地初中中國語文科課程內容的異同。2. 為教育當局日後修訂中國語文科課程提供意見。理據是以課程論和學科論為基礎。研究發現：兩地的語文課程定位、 課程結構、學科性質、課程取向及學習目標，教材組織、選材原則及教材編寫，教學原則、元素及要求，評估目的、功能、方式與方法等，都有不同程度的差異。
In the beginning of a new century, a brand new Chinese Language curriculum guide and referencing criteria have been implemented in Hong Kong and Shanghai respectively. This study aims to compare and contrast the junior secondary Chinese Language curriculum in these two regions. In the meantime, this study tries to shed light on its future development and provide insights for the education policy makers. Based on the disciplines and curriculum theories, variations are found upon different areas including standards setting, curriculum structure, nature of disciplines, directions and learning objectives; organization, selection and compilation of teaching materials; teaching principles, elements and requirements; and the assessment aims, function, forms and methods.
