In this study, a modified version of the Curriculum Orientation Inventory for Early Childhood Education (COI-ECE) is developed and validated with a sample of 717 in-service teachers from fifty Hong Kong pre-primary schools. Results of confirmatory factor analysis show that the curriculum beliefs of pre-primary school teachers can be conceptualised into four dimensions: humanistic, cognitive process/academic, technological, and social reconstruction orientations. Results also reveal that pre-primary school teachers hold strong humanistic orientation beliefs while cognitive process/academic orientation beliefs are held less strongly. Further analyses by one-way ANOVA tests find that differences in curricular orientation beliefs are related to teachers’ educational level and teaching position. This study reaffirms the importance of implementing an integrated developmentally appropriate curriculum in promoting whole-child development in children’s early years. The implications for supporting and sustaining teachers’ curriculum-based planning and subsequent teaching practices will be discussed. Many universities have integrated community engagement in their undergraduate programs. At The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, it is compulsory for all students to take at least one 3-credit subject on service-learning (SL). In each SL subject, there are purpose-designed academic teaching, rigorous service and structured assessment components. At full implementation, roughly 4,500 undergraduate students would enroll in around 70 subjects offered by a wide range of departments and faculties across the university. The subjects cover a diverse range of topics, such as digital divide, learning difficulties, engineering design, healthy living environments, orthotics, and ecotourism. The target beneficiaries are equally diverse, including slum dwellers, disabled people, children with HIV, villagers without water nor electricity, new immigrants, mentally ill patients, ethnic minorities, and children of migrant workers. To date, students have served different groups of clients in Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Rwanda. This chapter outlines the pedagogical design of the program, challenges and strategies for implementation, and the experiences gained so far.

Creativity literature was criticized for its bias towards conventional areas (e.g. arts), and creativity studies in domains less concerned about creativity, such as environmental sustainability (ES), are rare. This study aimed to understand the development of "creativity for ES" (pro-ES creativity) of common tertiary students. Based on a pro-environmental behaviour model and a pro-sustainability competence model found in literature, a pro-ES creative learning curriculum was designed and integrated into an existing toy course in a university of Hong Kong. A total of 20 students from three cohorts were interviewed, and their feedback was analysed inductively with open-coding by the consensus of two experts. Together with their affecting factors, five learning outcomes emerged as attributes of pro-ES creativity: sensitivity and problem-finding; creative problem-solving abilities; affinity for self-creating life-style; creative systems thinking and futures thinking; and reconceptualization of creativity and ES. This study discovered that creativity, as a kind of self-actualization, had developed both individual competences and intrinsic motivation, which are conducive to life-long self-determining ES behaviours. This study informs the education field that the five attributes of pro-ES creativity can be enhanced in a curriculum based on a simple everyday theme. As such, pro-ES creativity education can be integrated into many existing curricula. Going beyond ES, this study shed light on creativity studies of other less popular areas. It suggested a dual domain-specific-general creativity education approach and a dual deductive-inductive research approach for developing creativity theories and curriculum of "low-creativity" domains. Integrated curriculum mainly covers three Key Learning Areas (“Personal, Social & Humanities Education”, “Science Education” and “Technology Education”) in Hong Kong primary schools. Six primary schools were involved in a curriculum project which aimed to promote the development and implementation of integrated curriculum. Six sets of integrated curriculum with different themes from primary one to primary six were developed and implemented in the schools; and the contents of individual themes included the rationale of curriculum development, curriculum concept map, and scheme of teaching. The purpose of implementing the integrated curriculum was to provide feasible approaches to humanities- science-technology education, which other school curriculum leaders may apply, with reference to the school-based considerations, in their schools. It is anticipated that individual curriculum leaders can, after implementation, obtain valuable experiences of nurturing students for “learning to learn” and “whole person development” by means of humanitiesscience- technology education. As a consequence, six curriculum leaders from the six primary schools were invited to share their experiences of implementation; and the comments provided are discussed and analyzed according to the following focuses: 1) rationale and characteristic of curriculum design, 2) achievement of and challenge to curriculum implementation, 3) review of the integrated curriculum.

This paper will report how practicing teachers implement an interdisciplinary curriculum in Hong Kong classrooms. General Studies, as an interdisciplinary subject first developed for primary curriculum, has essential contribution to enhance meaningful learning relevant to daily experiences and develop pupils' high order thinking skills. Thus, the realization of the intended aims and objectives of this curriculum is of pivotal importance for the achievement of the overall aims of education for the 21st century. Through questionnaire survey, pre and post-lesson interviews and lesson observation, the researchers examine whether intended aims of the General Studis Curriculum have been achieved. Implications and suggestions will be discussed in relation to professional development of practicing teachers on integrated teaching.

本文分析了兩所學校在發展初中綜合人文科課程時所面對的問題及其應對的領導策略。它們在校方及科組兩大領導層面上採取了不同的手法，包括強化老師團隊合作，找尋適合的課程切入點，並引入了大學的專業支援，促進了課程的發展。這些經驗，除了可供準備發展此學科的學校借鏡外，亦突顯了領導課程發展時需要注意的問題。
This paper discusses two school-based leadership experiences in the development of junior Integrated Humanities (IH) curriculum. Different means have been adopted by school and panel leaders to facilitate the curriculum development, such as reinforcing teachers' collaboration, selecting appropriate entry points and soliciting professional support. Their positive experiences may inform other schools, which aspire to develop their school-based IH curricula and highlight the practical issues in which the curriculum leaders should deal with carefully.
