- One of the major curriculum reforms proposed by the Curriculum Development Council (1999) is to develop integrated curricula. It is believed that learning through an integrated curriculum will have advantages over that through the traditional subject-based curriculum. The tryout with integrated curricula in QESOSA Secondary School in the past five years, however, reveals that content literacy is fundamental to learning, and integrating the teaching of content literacy skills with the sciences and humanities is particularly important to multi-disciplinary learning. This paper reports the evolution of curriculum integration in the school, with focus on the development of content thinking and literacy across subjects. The experience will shed light on the process of developing integrated curricula and how to develop “life-long learning to learn” skills in secondary school curriculum.
