Research Findings: This study examined the contribution of teacher-student conflict at kindergarten to the child’s school adjustment in primary school using a Hong Kong sample. It investigated self-regulation as a mediator and parents’ positive relations with others as a moderator in that transition. At Time 1 (T1), kindergarten teachers reported their levels of conflict with individual children (N = 324, 168 girls), whereas children’s self-regulation was assessed with a Head-Toes-Knees-Shoulders Task. Fathers and mothers also rated their positive relations with others. At Time 2 (T2; 8 months later), when children were enrolled in primary school (N = 247, 126 girls), primary school teachers rated how well they adjusted to the new school. Moderated mediation analyses showed that although the direct effect of T1 teacher-student conflict on T2 school adjustment was not significant, the indirect effect of self-regulation was. T1 teacher-student conflicts were negatively related to children’s self-regulation, which in turn predicted subsequent school adjustment. Interestingly, this indirect effect was significant only when parents’ positive relations with others were low rather than high. Practice or Policy: The findings highlight the importance of both a warm and caring relationship in the home and self-regulation to successful school transition. 從商業教育的角度，回顧了香港STEM教育的實踐成效。通過參考國外(如新加坡及美國)STEM教育的經驗，認為香港STEM教育有可進步的空間。雖然創業教育在香港已發展成熟，並有大量專業團體的協助，但商業教育在 STEM 教育中仍未發揮應有的作用。建議推行創業 STEM教育，為學生提供一個實踐的環境，並透過跨科協助，來提升整個中學 STEM 教育的成效。 Copyright © 2018 中南大學.

Effectively use of technologies in early childhood centres has influential impact on learning and teaching. Leaders of early childhood centres have crucial roles to promote the good use of learning technologies. In Hong Kong, with millions of dollars subsidies from the SAR government to early childhood centres for improving early childhood quality under the Voucher scheme since 2007. Many more early childhood leaders equip their centres with different kinds of new technologies. However, the usage rate of technologies in early childhood classrooms is relatively low compare with other teaching and learning facilities. In this study, I aim to investigate the leadership strategies applied by leaders to promote technology use in early childhood centres. Case study was applied to investigate the leadership strategies, in-depth interview were conducted with principal and teachers in a well-resourced digitized kindergarten in Hong Kong. Thematic analysis was applied to draw the findings. Major findings on leadership strategies include: providing authentic support, encouraging active trial, leading practical practice and forming pro-digital culture in organization. Parents of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) reported higher stress than those of typically developing children. The role of child problem behaviors in the relationship between autism spectrum symptoms and parenting stress is little known. A total of 731 parents of 177 children with ASD and 554 typically developing children in primary schools (6–11 years old) completed an ASD screening survey containing measures of parenting stress and child problem behaviors. While autism spectrum symptoms were positively associated with parenting stress, the relationship was mediated by child problem behaviors. Results suggest neither the severity of autism spectrum symptoms nor knowledge of ASD diagnosis was a primary source of parenting stress. 「繪本融合習式方法」為香港幼兒教育日漸普及的一種教育戲劇的教學方式。本文根據讀者回應理論，建立「創意空隙」（creative gaps）的概念框架，提出六種不同面向及程度的創意空隙，以評估教學案中能給予幼兒重新想像、探索和重述故事的機會與可能性。作者提出，教師在設計教案時，應發掘繪本的創意空隙，以選配和編排適當的戲劇習式。本文藉研究幼兒教師與戲劇導師共同設計的20個教案，探討這模式在香港的實踐狀況。結果顯示，教學設計雖未能完全擺脫文本的束縛以開放地讓幼兒參與，但當中的創意空隙能引導幼兒進行多方面故事探索和重新想像。不過，以現實生活經驗來重創故事，討論當中的品德情意與社會議題的表現，卻未見顯著。本研究建議師資訓練多強調有關繪本和創意空隙的分析與應用的知識和技巧。The use of Conventions Approach with picture books has become a popular teaching mode of Drama-in-Education in the early childhood education in Hong Kong. Drawing on the reader-response theories, the author constructs a conceptual framework called ＂creative gaps.＂ This framework includes six aspects and gradations of creative gaps which aims to evaluate the opportunities and possibilities given to children to re-imagine, explore and retell the story in a drama lesson. The author argues that teachers should identify the creative gaps of the picture book when assigning and arranging appropriate drama conventions to teach. Through analyzing 20 teaching plans co-written by preschool teachers and drama artists, the author examines the practice of this drama teaching approach collected from eight preschools in Hong Kong. The results reveal that although the teachers could not totally break through the confinement of the original text for open participation, the creative gaps identified in their teaching plans could support young children to re-imagine and explore the story in various ways. Still, attempts were made to facilitate the children to re-create the story through everyday experiences and to discuss the social and moral messages in the story. In the end, the author suggests that teacher training should put more emphasis on the knowledge and skills about analyzing and applying picture books and creative gaps. Copyright © 2017 Author.

This paper reports the findings of a case study that attempted to identify school-related factors influencing the quality of implementation of the Tier 1 Program of the Project P.A.T.H.S. in Hong Kong. The case study method was utilized to investigate perceptions of the program implementers of program effectiveness, and to identify the crucial factors for program success in a school with a religious background that admits students with high academic achievement. Findings demonstrated that incorporation of the program into the formal curriculum, good administrative support, efficient management from school, and presence of dedicated teachers contributed to program success. Based on Dörnyei's L2 Motivational Self System (L2MSS), this study explored senior secondary students' multiple L2 selves when they enrolled in English private tutoring (EPT) courses. Through narrative inquiry, this paper analysed 18 Hong Kong Secondary Six (Grade 12) students' English learning experiences and their motivation for learning English and subscribing to EPT. Each participant completed a questionnaire, wrote three pieces of reflective writing and responded to six individual interviews throughout the year of study. The findings indicated that language learning converged from diverse activities to examination drilling at senior secondary school years. The learners possessed insecure actual L2 selves, revealing a discrepancy with their future L2 selves consisting of dominant ought-to L2 selves and suppressed ideal L2 selves. This study contributes to research in language learning by unveiling EPT learners' formation of L2 selves in a context of high-stakes testing. The findings contribute to the development of the L2MSS by operationalising the actual L2 self, its discrepancy with possible L2 selves, and the interrelationship between ideal and ought-to L2 selves. The study calls for further research to bridge the fields of shadow education and language learning given the significant role EPT plays in shaping learners' out-of-school L2 learning experiences. The Education policy "Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers of English" had been controversial since its establishment in 2000, in the sense that various stakeholders including parents, students, school administrators, teachers and the general public. This essay critically analyses this education policy in the HK context by scrutinizing the prerequisite. Subsequently, how LPATE was built on policy texts and how it was construed as a solution of gradual decline of English as well as the reciprocal politics interacting with the policy were analyzed. Additionally, the institutions and actors involved in the policy process are discussed followed by the revelation of the outcomes of LPATE in both the expected and the unanticipated dimensions. This paper discerns hybridity in higher education in Hong Kong taking the socio-political approach. The socio-political approach holds that higher education is a system essentially located within the social, political, and economic environment. On this basis, the discourse of the hybridity is divided in two stages: colonial era and post-colonial era. The former embeds this discourse in Hong Kong’s colonial history (1842-1997). Though the university was imported to Hong Kong by the British colonial government as an imperialist project that institutionalized Western civilisation in China, it was simultaneously connected to Chinese nationalism. This blend of colonialism and nationalism denotes a collaborative colonial governmentality and illustrates a paradigm of hybridity in the colonial era. The later draws heavily on the social, political and economic changes in post-colonial Hong Kong. Several incidents involving individual academic freedom and institutional autonomy of universities that occurred in Hong Kong after 1997 are studied. These controversial incidents and associated confrontations in the university sector are regarded as signals of an ongoing hybridization process in the city. Copyright © 2018 CIES. With such advantages as being fun, effective and interactive, game-based learning has become a new trend in education field. In the course Web Intelligence (INT 4029), one of the major difficulties for students to complete the assignment and to meet the achievement of the expected learning outcome is the lack of information literacy skills. To facilitate the development of students' information literacy, the present research developed a game based on an online role-playing platform called MEGA World. Twenty students participated in the project. Pre-questionnaire and postquestionnaire surveys were conducted to collect data concerning the students' attitudes towards the game-based learning experience. The results showed that students believed that game-based learning effectively facilitated the development of their information literacy.
