About Us

Introduction

The Hong Kong Education Bibliographic Database has been developed by The Education University of Hong Kong Library as an easy-to-use annotated online database for researchers to quickly identify all research literature related to education in Hong Kong. It is one of the "Hong Kong Education Heritage" projects initiated by The Education University of Hong Kong to preserve the cultural heritage of education in Hong Kong.

The Bibliographic Database, first launched as a beta testing site in November 2010, is fully searchable by commonly used index fields such as author, title, publication year and keyword. In addition, a tree-structured subject classification based on two previous bibliographic projects (see below) has been established to allow researchers to locate items of interest easily by browsing. Brief annotations or abstracts will also be included for all items once the Bibliographic Database is completed.

Aims and Objectives

  • To support and promote academic research into Hong Kong education by building a comprehensive research database on the history and development of education and related topics in Hong Kong

  • To raise the quality of research by making previous work easier to locate, and in so doing to raise the visibility of all educational research and researchers in Hong Kong

  • To strengthen the connections between the University, the local and worldwide scholarly community, and researchers and practitioners in the field of education, as well as interested members of public, through open access to the bibliographic information provided by the database

Scope and Coverage

The Bibliographic Database will index all research output related to education in Hong Kong regardless of the researchers' origin. When the bibliographic database is completed, data from three previous bibliographic projects related to Hong Kong education will be included with the coverage of past research work dating back as far as 1946:

  • Chung Yue Ping Stephen, Luk Hung Kay Bernard, Wong Hin Wah & Fung Yee Wang (Eds.). (1991). 香港教育硏究分類目錄, 1946-1982 An Annotated Bibliography of Studies of Hong Kong Education (1946-1982). Hong Kong: Chinese University Press.

  • Tse Kwan Choi Thomas & Tse Hing Sang (Unpublished). IHKERL: Index to Hong Kong Educational Research.

  • Cheng Yin Cheong, Chow King Wai, Mok Mo Ching & Tsui Kwok Tung (Eds.). (2000). Research and Development of School Curriculum in Hong Kong: An Annotated Bibliography 香港學校課程研究及發展文獻專集. Hong Kong: The Hong Kong Institute of Education.

Types of Documents Included

At present, the following categories of research output are included: books or book chapters, articles from periodicals, dissertations or theses, conference papers, research reports and any other related materials. Both printed and non-printed materials will be indexed.
