- 性別的認知和性別平等議題在香港教育討論中明顯缺席。千禧年前後,教改的討論沸沸揚揚,然而其重點極端單一及工具化—如何使學生適應「知識型經濟」。千禧年以來,教育制度和課程都經歷了重大的變革,但公民教育卻不在議程之內,相反,「愛國教育」就備受關注;性別認知或性別平等教育更付諸闕如。另一方面,一些參與婦女運動或與之緊密聯絡的非政府組織在這方面十分活躍。這些組織通過設計教材、出版和舉辦學校或公開論壇來推動性別平等教育。他們依靠有限資源、以及與大學教師的連連繫,嘗試在中學或社福機構推動性別平等教育。可惜,他們的努力沒有得到很大的認同,影響力也不高。其實性別平等教育的成敗,與前線教師在這方面的認知有密切關係;師訓過程是否有提供這方面的培育因此是關鍵所在,而這正是香港師訓所缺乏的。說到底,性別平等教育的成敗與婦女運動的力量息息相關,而婦運的力量又與公民、民主運動緊密連繫。因此,性別平等教育的命運,就無可避免地繫於專權與民主政治的角力。
