This chapter examines the nature and role of civic education in the formal curriculum of schools in Hong Kong since 1945. It begins with a brief analysis of the diverse meaning associated with the concepts of civics, citizenship, and political education and then provides an historic overview of the shifting role of civics in Hong Kong schools in the post-war period.
