This paper explores the severe obstacle of implementing effective science teaching in the General Studies curriculum. Findings of a research project on primary teachers' self-perceived confidence in teaching different areas of "science and technology" are presented. A random sample of 200 teachers in 30 primary schools participated in a questionnaire survey. Results indicate that low confidence was related to teacher' lack of science subject knowledge.
