Through analyzing the development of national identity education in Hong Kong before and after Hong Kong’s return, the article reported that not much progress was made during the beginning period of Hong Kong’s return due to the colonial education’s infl uence. Although national identity education has improved in recent years, it lacks a model. The author proposes that Hong Kong needs to reconstruct its national identity education on global, national and local levels for its implementation. As for promoting national identity education in Hong Kong, schools here should emphasize on closer ties between Guangdong and Hong Kong as well as affective education as key tasks.
