- In this book, the author argues that the emphasis of civic education for transitional Hong Kong is neither on the development of democratic personality nor on the development of national identity, but rather the preservation of status quo. He further argues that civic education in Hong Kong is both depoliticized and trivialized. The direct consequence is that, while the Hong Kong society is getting more and more politicized, students feel more and more alienated from the political arena.
