- 作者指出語文課程設計已從以教材、教者為本轉向以學習者為本，而語言應用的目標是「作事」，故應用文的目的也是要滿足「作事」的需要。實用文面對的學習困難有以下兩點：一、在形式、用語和風格上要適應不同華語區的習慣；二、在內容表達方面很難預知學生將來需要的廣度。作者參考了很多中、外學者的理論，作出了以下提議：習作設計的基本形式應是雙向的課業設計；要設計完備而有效的習得環境；考慮共時原則，從當代的日常書面語料中取材。此外，教學以學習者的需要為本位，重視語言學習和認知的內化過程，教師應是一個導引者，盡量提出充份而客觀的指引。（鄭佩芳整理）
