- 作者首先介紹閱讀的三種模式，並介紹處理信息過程的四個層次及提供各層次的評估方法。第一是文字辨認：評估方法可以包括速度和準確性兩方面。第二是詞義理解：評估方法除準確性外，還可包括靈活性和流暢性。第三是句子加工：教師避免設計只理解少許就能回答的題目，評估題目分：即時匹配或推理匹配兩類。第四是篇章分析：評估學生對文體結構元素的認識。（關之英整理）
