- 作者指出，語文教育學院在1987年開始進行一項中文廣泛閱讀試驗計劃，為期兩年，研究學生閱讀和語文能力的關係。研究結果顯示：實驗組學生在閱讀測驗成績比控制組進步，但在學科測驗則沒有分別。這似乎反映廣泛閱讀對學生的寫作能力並沒有影響。作者建議：一、正式推行時必須有一些定期的活動，如比賽、遊戲等，以維繫學生的興趣；二、邀請出版商出版高級程度的書籍；三、安排教師培訓。（關之英整理）
