Whether teachers should use the mother tongue or the target language as the medium of the instruction in the English as Foreign Language classrooms is raised by the author. Reportedly, the lessons of a group of primary school teachers teaching Hong Kong students aged 6-7 through a task-based curriculum were observed. The author presents 6 teaching approaches which help teachers use the target language in class.
