As the five- year IT in education strategic plan (Education & Manpower Bureau, 1998) is successfully undergoing, the Hong Kong schools¡¦ IT teaching and learning environment has being the dramatically changes. Today, tremendous learning and teaching activities have been made possible via the Internet and intranet (Ross & Schulz, 1999). While the learning technology gains increasingly used in classrooms; it is worthy of paying attention to the adoption of Hong Kong teachers¡¦ attitudes on their IT practice in teaching. This provides an opportunity for an action research. As the beginning, a survey about how HK secondary teachers use of web-based learning resources was underway. This paper intends to give a brief discussion upon the initial findings in the survey.

With the surging demands for the use of network-based learning environment in primary and secondary schools, the knowledge and practical skills on school LAN management is increasingly critical for our pre-service and in-service IT teachers. Many of our IT graduates will assume the role of IT coordinators in their employed schools on top of their regular teaching duties. Training on network concepts and hands-on communication skills are essential to them. In this paper, we describe our model LAN project for teaching and learning. The model LAN stimulates a school¡¦s networking environment so that our student teachers can acquire the relevant knowledge and practical skills very close to the real school networking environment.

E-learning has become increasingly important. The situation in Hong Kong is no exception. Since the implementation of the five-year strategic for information technology in education, there have been substantial changes in the infrastructure in Hong Kong schools in terms of hardware, software and peopleware. These advances are providing a good platform for Hong Kong schools to further develop a better and necessary learning environment for their students. This paper reports some of the recent development of e-learning in Hong Kong and reflects critically of its future.
