此書收錄了香港、澳門及廣州三地的教育工作者共27篇文章，從學術研究及實際應用的層面，探討公民及道德教育的問題。

這小冊子的目的是協助香港的教育工作者反思推行民族教育的理念及實踐。本書收集了七篇文章，旨在反思民族教育的目的，內容及教學方法，書後並附有香港中學統籌主任對民族／愛國教育理念的調查問卷。

The author notes that, for more than three decades, there has been a poverty of political education in Hong Kong and that the political changes of de-colonization and national re-integration with China pose new challenges to the development of political education. This book concludes that the current objectives and the content, as well as the implementation, of civic education programs in secondary schools have problems and that their impact on students is limited.
