A healthy lifestyle determines a person's long-term health more than any other behaviour. A lifetime of health education should begin during childhood and carry on throughout adolescence. In Hong Kong, however, health education for young people in secondary schools is limited to biology and physical education lesson. As a result of less attention paid to lifestyle and health consciousness, serious health problems can ensue. This study will investigate the experience of Hong Kong young people (N=150) with regard to health education, their actual lifestyles and attempt to identify the predictors of health behaviour. The data and results obtained will be crucial for designing an effective health promotion programme for young people in the future.
健康的生活模式，比任何其他行為更能影響人的長遠健康；因此終身的健康教育，應由童年開始延伸至青年期。可是，香港中學普遍缺乏健教；只有「生物」及「體育」課是跟健教有關的。忽視生活模式及健康意識，可帶來嚴重的健康問題。本研究收集了150名香港年青人接受健康教育的經驗，以及他們的實際生活模式。研究所得資料，對將來設計一套推動青年健康教育的策略非常重要。

This paper addresses the nature and responsibilities of vocational education and training, and the factors which influence such provisions. It uses the Hong Kong system as an example and describes the activities and development of the major provider, the Vocational Training Council (VTC). It details the VTC's key objectives and the factors influencing its current and future activities. The major initiatives concerning education in developing an integrated institution from its nine vocational institutions with newly designed courses and repositioning its training provision are briefly described. The paper details new initiatives resulting from economic retrenchment, to provide vocational courses for unemployed, below average attainment, secondary school leavers and the importance of basic generic language and IT skills in such courses.
本文概述職業培訓的性質和責任，以及其中的影響因素，並引本地體制為例，介紹職業訓練局的工作與發展。文內詳述職業訓練局的宗旨、當前及未來工作方針，包括：合併轄下九間院校、課程革新、培訓工作重新定位等。香港經濟逆轉，訓練局亦靈活應變，為失業人士和學能欠佳中學畢業生提供合適課程。該類課程除教授基本就業技能外，特別注重語文溝通技巧，資訊科技應用等訓練。

Since September 2000, schools in Hong Kong have begun implementing the system of school-based management (SBM), and physical education (PE) has been established as one of the eight Key Learning Areas under the current education reform. Schools are now expending greater efforts on training athletes and deploying greater resources to help student-athletes realise their potential. Jockey Club Ti-I College is a pioneer of SBM in PE and other subjects and has accumulated invaluable experience in nurturing athletes. Many of its graduates have become top athletes in Hong Kong, and budding athletes are being nurtured every year. This paper attempts to briefly describe the uniqueness and special features of Jockey Club Ti-I College and what the school has done to nurture student-athletes under SBM in Hong Kong.
香港的學校已於2000年實施校本管理，而體育科更成為八個學習領域的其中一環，學校亦在訓練方面投放更多資源。賽馬會體藝中學是校本管理的先鋒，在體育及其他方面累積了不少經驗，學校每年不斷培育運動員，不少體藝畢業生更成為精英運動員。本文將介紹賽馬會體藝中學的特色，以及分享培育體育人才的經驗。

There seems to be a common view that the youth of today do not live up to the expectations of the older generation. It is assumed, for example, that youth are less responsible, less concerned about public interests and social services, and have an insufficient knowledge about social and political affairs. It is further believed that youth are more materialistic and hedonistic, self-oriented, short-sighted, and have a liberal attitude towards marriage and sex. With all these assumptions, the author will attempt an analysis on values by studying various youth reports published in the 1990s. Surprisingly, data and analyses from these reports do not support the common negative perceptions on youth. In contrast, many positive values can be found in relation to their attitudes towards family, work, education and friendship. This paper, therefore, argues for the need to develop a different attitude towards Hong Kong's youth.
社會人士一般認為青少年人未能達致成年社會對他們的期望。例如，香港現今的青少年愈來愈缺乏責任感，不關心社會，而且對社會、政治和公共事務都缺乏認識。另一方面，現今的青少年偏向物質主義、享樂主義、自我主義、短視，以及對性與婚姻的態度愈趨開放。本文作者嘗試研究九十年代香港有關青少年價值觀的調查報告，希望深入地了解他們的問題以及背後的價值觀。分析過有關的研究報告，本文作者發現這些報告並不支持上述的看法。相反，從分析顯示，香港的青少年對家庭、工作、教育和朋友都抱持正面和積極的態度。本文的目的就是嘗試將香港青少年的種種正面價值觀作出剖析和報導。

The article describes the "Top-Teen Program" This is a short, intensive, residential program which aims to change the self image and improve the self confidence of underachieving and poorly motivated students - popularly known as "band-5" students. The program is based on known therapeutic theories - particularly Neuro-Linguistic Programming. It focuses on the areas of ego-identity, self-mastery and self-esteem. All participants are given relevant psychological tests before participating and again afterwards. Statistical analysis of the results has consistently shown a significant improvement in all three areas after participating in the program. The authors argue that this indicates that it is possible to "re-motivate" students who had previously considered themselves as useless drop-outs.
本文主要介紹「Top-Teen計劃」。「Top-Teen計劃」是一項短期密集式的住宿計劃，目的在於協助低成就及動力差的學生──「第五組別」學生 ，改善其自我形象及自信心。計劃的基礎來自治療性理論，特別是關注自我身份、自我管理力和自尊的「神經語言學」。所有參與者在參與計劃的前後都進行了心理測驗，統計結果一致顯示，完成計劃的參與者在上述三個範疇中的表現都有顯著的改善。因此，從前認為自己「無用」的輟學者，是有可能能被「從新推動」的。

In the face of heavy demand for private supplementary tutoring in basic education, the state seems to have adopted a consumerism model in the decentralised governance of mass tutoring, allowing students and parents to select for themselves course information, payment amounts and methods, tutoring dates and times, and physical conditions when buying services from registered cram schools in Hong Kong. In the study reported here, a 3-level cultural analysis of cram schools was conducted from 1998 to 2008 to examine the patterns of mass tuition trends in Hong Kong. The analysis investigated the impacts of such trends, or culture, upon youth values, and implications are drawn for policy making, educational reform, societal movements, and academic recommendations for further research.
面對課餘補習的極大需求，香港特區政府似乎採納以消費主義為本的分權管理模式，讓有需要的學生及家長自行考慮課程內容、收取的費用及收費方法、學習環境、補習日期及時間等條件，去選擇合宜的註冊補習社。通過三個層次的文化分析，本文旨在剖析補習社文化或風氣於1998年至2008年期間對青少年價值觀的影響，從而在管理政策、教育改革、社會運動及學術研究等多層面上提出建議。
